Squash Tips Part 3
This time I'd like to explain about the terminology.

Game and match
A match consists of 3 games or 5 games.
The word SET is not used in squash.
Warm up
To warm up the ball before the actual rallies.
2 minutes and 30 seconds at each side of the court.
Half time
The notification of 2 minutes and 30 seconds have passed
and players are needed to change the side.
If the both of the players agreed not to change, it's
allowed.
Spin for service
To spin the racket to decide the server at the begining of
the match.
Fifteen seconds
The notification of 90 seconds interval finishes in 15 seconds.
The players should be ready in the court in 15 seconds.
Time
Time to start the game.
Hand out
The notification of right of the service will be changed.
Not up
The markers call when a player failed to return the ball
within 1 bound on the floor.
Board
The bottom line of the front wall above the tin.
Tin
The bottom part of the front wall bellow the bottom line.
From left box or from Right box
Notification when the server is trying to make a service from
the wrong side service box.
Stop
A call to stop the play in wrong situation.
For instance the ball was not up but the players
are trying to continue the play. And the marker
stops the play.
Stop! The ball was not up.
Stop! The ball was out.
Out
The service or ball of the rally is out of the court or on the
line of the out line.
Fault
The call when the ball of the service hit between
the service line and board.
Down
The call when the ball hit under the board.
Foot fault
The call when at least one foot of the server is out of
the service box or on the service box line.
The ball was good.
The call when the player claimed that the ball was out or
fault but the refree decided ball was not out nor fault.
Nick
The touching point of the wall and the floor or
front wall and the side wall which is touching in 90 degrees.
If the ball hit the nick the direction of the ball changes
and it is hard to return the ball.
Some good players are aiming the nicks.
Draw
Draw of the tournament which lists the names of the
players who plays with who.
Default
In absent to the match.
MARKER'S GUIDELINES
In general the correct order of calls is:
1. Anything affecting the score.
2. The score (with the server's score always called first).
3. Comments on the score:
Examples are:
"Not up, hand-out 4-3."
"Down, 8-all, set one, game ball."
"Out, 8-all, set two."
"Yes let, 3-4."
"No let, hand-out, 5-7."
"Stroke to Jones, 8-2, match ball."
"Foot fault, hand-out, love-all."
"Fault" (appeal by server, Referee uncertain). "Let, 8-3, game ball."
Match introduction:
"Smith serving, Jones receiving, best of 5 games, love-all."
End of a game:
"9-7, game to Smith. Smith leads one game to love."
"10-9, game to Smith. Smith leads two games to love."
"9-3, game to Jones. Smith leads two games to one."
"9-4, game to Jones, two games all."
"10-8, match to Smith, 9-7, 10-9, 3-9, 4-9, 10-8."
Start of subsequent game:
"Smith leads one game to love, love-all."
"Two games all, love-all."
After award of Conduct penalty:
"Stroke to Smith, 7-2".
"9-7, game to Jones, two games all".
