Bobby Caldwell

Bobby Caldwell
Bobby Caldwell was born in Manhattan, New York on August 15, 1951. It was generally said to be that his music carrier was started in 1978 by releasing his first album "Bobby Caldwell" containing the hit tune titled "What You Won't Do For Love" ranked No.9 on Billboard Pop Chart. However, the fact is a little different. Bobby had released the single record "The House Is Rockin' / When You Awake" in 1976 under the minor label named PBR International.
Bobby constantly released his albums; "Cat In The Hat" in 1980 and "Carry on" followed in 1982. His 4th album "August Moon" was released in 1983 which had been available only in Japan, now is also available in U.S.A by Sin-Drome Records.
After long long silence, Bobby came back to the music scene in 1989 with the brand-new album "Heart of Mine" which contains the his self-cover version of "Heart of Mine" originally performed by Boz Scaggs in 1988 and "Next Time (I Fall)" originally performed by Peter Cetera & Amy Grant ranked No.1 on Billboard Pop Chart in 1986. Bobby again started to release his original albums constantly since then. Bobby gradually changed his musical style into more jazzy one in mid 90's from his unique and excellent Adult Contemporary one. When you listen to the album "Soul Survivor" (1995), you must be upset if you would expect pure AOR/Adult Contemporary Bobby Caldwell because this album has a little standard jazz flavors. Further, Bobby pursued his standard jazz style by the following albums "Blue Condition" (1996) and "Come Rain, Come Shine" (1999). I would hereby show you Bobby Caldwell's Japanese CDs which are either having different tracklisting or including bonus tracks when I compare with its U.S. original versions.

  • The Other Side Of Bobby Caldwell

Many kinds of Bobby Caldwell's collection / greatest hits albums are released. Each collection album has different planning concept but there is not so many people who buy this kind of collection album unless it includes very rare tracks or something special which is hard to get. On this "The Other Side of Bobby Caldwell", there are several rare tracks worth you pay for. One is "Lonely Weekend" by Yellowjackets featuring Bobby, the other is "Tangonera (When Nature Turns A Page" for the commercial film of Sharp AQUOS TV. Otherwise, it might be "Merry X'mas", cover version of Japanese male singer Kazumasa Oda song. 2 Duet songs are remarkable. "Who Are You?" is taken from Brenda Russell's 1993 album "Soul Talkin'". "Baby, It's Cold Outside" is beautiful Christmas song duet with Vanessa Williams, taken from Vanessa's 1996 album "Star Light". 3 rare versions should be noted; "Can't Say Goodbye" (original TK Version) , "Even Now" (Radio Edit) and "What You Won't Do For Love" (20th Anniversary Version Eddy Yannah Remix-Radio Edit) .
