Arnold McCuller / Sabor
<ACM Rating:
>
Arnold McCuller's first latin-jazz flavored project album "Sabor" has arrived. "Sabor" is Arnold's very first project of all original material, every word and melody, which is produced and arranged by Jon Gilutin. Arnold says, "A Latin-flavored collection with enough feeling that I hope will inspire people of all musical tastes. I chose to name this project Sabor because it means “flavor” or “tasty.” Although these songs don't strictly qualify as Latin Jazz, I love the genre and I wanted to pay homage to this beautiful style of music. I hope Sabor makes you want to move, be inspired, and, most of all feel the love of self-expression." Arnold McCuller is acknowledged as one of the first-call backing vocalists for big names including James Taylor, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Luther Vandross, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Bette Midler, and Brenda Russell. Lionel Ritchie, Dave Koz, Billy Idol, Lyle Lovett and Beck to name only a few. Born and raised inOhio, Arnold began his professional musical career when he joined the national touring company of HAIR. In 1984, Arnold had a chance to record his own solo album " A Part Of Me That's You" co-produced by David Benoit. The 2nd one "Exception To The Rule" followed in 1990. Since then, Arnold has kept releasing his solo albums including "You Can't Go Back" co-produced by Bill Cantos ,"Back To Front" and "Circa 1990".

James Vincent
James Vincent raised in Chicago, the windy city. In mid 60's playing in many of Chicago's well-known clubs and then joined a popular local rock band named The Exceptions,, originally founded by Kal David, Marty Grebb and Peter Cetera, They soon became one of the most in demand club acts in town and released 2 albums and several singles. Cetera later left to pursue other avenues, eventually winding up as the lead singer for Chicago. Vincent's talents were much in demand as a studio musician, laying down tracks for Minnie Ripperton, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and many notable Chess Records recording artists.Along the way Vincent met rock promoter Bill Graham, who at the time was managing a band called H.P. Lovecraft. The band needed a guitar player and Vincent needed a change, so he took the job and moved to San Francisco. What James Vincent really liked around then was the work of the Mahavishnu Orchestra featuring John McLaughlin. Their fusion style inspired Vincent and once again he found himself spinning in a new direction. Thus, James Vincent finished his first solo album "Culmination" in 1971, and then signed with Columbia/Caribou Records and in 1974 "Culmination" was finally released to the public. Next step was The album "Space Traveller" recorded in 1975. The album was released in 1976 was definitely Vincent's most commercially successful album ,which sounds a slightly R&B jazz fusion style. If you like the funky sounds of the mid 70's you should love this record. On this album, David "Hawk" Wolinski, the keyboard player from Rufus & Chaka Kahn, and Jack Nitzche, known as the arranger and conductor for the influential producer Phil Spector, well performed to express spacy sounds. The next effort of James Vincent was 1978's album titled "Waiting For The Rain". The music on this album was still very much R&B jazz fusion the lyrics boldly reflectedhis newfound Christian conversion while staying in Hawaii. James Vincent restarted his musical effort for Sparrow Records, one of the emerging CCM label in 1980. The album "Enter In" had basically the same musical style as "Waiting For The Rain". While Contemporary Christian Music was still developing in the marketplace, this album was quite unusual because it had a strong jazz style compared to the pop rock styles of that time. It was never the less warmly embraced by the more musically sophisticated listeners.
