In Recent years, we could listen to several Brett Raymond's albums by finding that he continues to work on his music in Salt Lake City, his hometown under Desert Books / Shadow Mountain. However, I never expect that he would release his album here in Japan again. His 1st solo album "Only Love" in 1986 was released only for Japan and this is one of the hardest to get. On this brand-new album, Brett shows his passion to Latin Music, much more exactly to Antonio Carlos Jobin. On this album, Brett covers 4 classic Jobin's tunes; "Waters Of March", "Agua De Beber (Water To Drink)", "Dindi" and "Favela" and shows us 3 original tunes (1 instrumental and 2 vocal tunes). Probably you will recall Sting when you listened to this album. Very good sophisticated album. Worth listening. You can enjoy David Foster's magical music world by this collection album as David says " This is actually a collection of songs that have followed me throughout my life. It's actually my career in one album". And you should note that you can listen a brand-new tune "I Will" performed by David Foster featuring Chris Kirkpatrick from N'sync and written by David with his wife Linda Thompson and Richard Marx.

Patrick Yandall, one of the underrated guitarists in spite of his marvelous music, grew up in Bay City, Michigan. In 1982, Patrick moved to San Diego and started many studio sessions in L.A including works with Carl Evans Jr. of Fattburger. In 1995, Patrick released his first solo album "That Feels Nice" under EDP Records USA. Patrick's 1998 release, "A Lasting Embrace" under BrainChild Records followed and Patrick became known internationally. His music continues to grow and expand with this artists wide variety of musical styles and his undying love for the guitar. His 3rd album "Of Two Cities" (2000) shows how he grew with a rhythmic and melodic blend of rock, R&B, jazz funk and fusion and received high praise in JAZZIZ magazine, Smooth Jazz News, and many more media. And now Patrick is back with another awesome smooth-jazz album featuring not only excellent guitar-instrumental tunes but also 2 great vocal tunes "Got To Love" and "Slow Change". Especially "Got To Love" must be a killer for you! Furthermore, his instrumental version of "You're The Only Woman" written by David Pack and originally performed by Ambrosia is really incredible one. Now is the time to try Patrick Yandall!!

Urs Wiesendanger, the producer / songwriter in Switzerland has been playing piano since he was four years old. Among many others, Quincy Jones, David Foster, Robbie Buchanan and Jeff Lorber were his main influences. His passion and strength lies in writing/producing "West Coast Main Stream Pop-Music" influenced by R&B and Jazz. At this time his own Fast Peak Studio is located in his hometown Zurich, but he keeps on traveling in Europe and to California. He recorded his first album in 1986 and since then has been working and producing with several artists and musicians like Jeff Lorber, Warren Hill, Robbie Buchanan, Warren Wiebe, and many more. Ten to nine, you feel interested in this album because of the Warren Wiebe featured Foster-touch ballads "Another Chance For Love". In addition to this track, I am confident you will be satisfied with Robbie Buchanan's style tune "Separate Ways" featuring Robbie himself and Jeff Pescetto on vocals. "For You And..." reminds me of Janet Jackson's beautiful ballads. His long-awaited solo album "The Real Me" is really worth for everybody.

Warren Hill, the Toronto-born saxophonist, singer, songwriter, released debut album "Kiss Under The Moon" in 1992 almost a year after his graduation from Berklee. 2nd album "Devotion" soon followed in 1993. In 1994, Warren’s third album called "Truth" reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz chart and thus Warren established his firm status in NAC / Contemporary Jazz field in mid 90's. 1997 album "Shelter" shown another talent of Warren. Warren reveals his remarkable ability as a vocalist, it was really surprising to me when I listened to this album. Warren released 2 sax-oriented album "Life Through Rose Colored Glasses" in 1998 and "Love Life" in 2000 after this masterpiece. And now, Warren just released his 7th record in over 10 years and one that he has wanted to make for quite some time, the collection of Warren's favorites; from "Fallen" originally performed by Lauren Wood to Paul McCartney's "My Love".

CORY WELLS / AHEAD OF THE STORM	<ACM Rating: >
Needless to say, this is not purely a new album of Cory Wells but very first time to be officially released all over the world. Cory Wells was born on Feburary 5, 1942 in Buffalo, NY. As widely known, in 1967 Cory Wells and Danny Bhutan thought that they would form the new band with three lead vocalist for one group and thus with the addition of Chuck Negron, the legendary rock group Three Dog Night started. "One" became the first Top 10 hit in 1969, and "Joy to the World" became the band's biggest hit in 1971. Cory Wells was part of Three Dog Night until about 1976. Cory embarked on his solo career with a solo album "Touch Me" in 1978, which must be a masterpiece for us but no commercial success in the United States. "Touch Me" is the one of the wanted album to be reissued on CD because of its excellent quality of the album, but by now would be on hold due to various reasons. On the album "Touch Me", Jay Graydon, David Foster, Bill Champlin, Steve Lukather, Jay Gruska and other top session musicians supported and created great music. Cory also worked on one another album called "Ahead Of The Storm", but it was to never see daylight until 2002. I should warn you that there is a big difference between this 2nd solo album between the album "Touch Me". As the jacket shows, this 2nd album is more rock-oriented album in spite of the same producers; David Anderle with Cory himself and with almost same supporting musicians including Jay Graydon, David Foster. We could enjoy several tracks such as "Y.O.U" written by Jay Gruska and Leffrey Sprit which was later covered by Marilyn Scott in 1979 but should note that some of them would not be worth listening for us.

Karizma, the L.A. based super fusion band David Garfield formed, has a long long history. "Fusion" is widely recognized as music blended many musical elements from Latin, Jazz, Funk and Rock. In this sense, Karizma is the leader of this music category. This collection CD includes early years demos including the interesting 1982 demos with James Felix on vocals, two of which were re-recorded on their first CD "Dream Come True" released in 1983 and one of which, "I Guess I'll Just Move On" was later recorded instrumentally as "Hungry Dogs" on their 2nd album "Cuba". And you can also listen to 1983 live tracks done at Baked Potato in North Hollywood which were broadcasted on FM Tokyo in Japan in those days. Japanese version specially includes "Say You Will" (live version) instead of "Heavy Resin" which has already been appeared on Larry Klimas's solo album "Retro-spec(t)" Japanese version.

Kevin Chalfant, the awesome vocalist known for his project "Storm" with the past and present members of Journey and/or solo works, are about to return with the second "Two Fires" album with Josh Ramos in February!As I reviewed their debut album in June 2000, the album "Two Fires" emerged with the perfect quality as those found on early 80's Journey's mega-hit albums "Departures" (1980), "Escape"(1981) and "Frontiers"(1983). If you would like to enjoy the good-old powerful Journey vein, do not miss their second effort "Ignition" also! However I dare to say that sound quality should be much improved during the recording session and/or mixing/mastering process.

David Pomeranz seems to find out his 2nd home in Philippine. It was 1971 when David appeared in front of us with his debut album "New Blues". "Time To Fly" (Decca) and "It's In Every One Of Us" (Arista) followed. As you know, David succeeded in the States and also in Japan with his 4th album "The Truth Of Us" (Pacific/ WEA) in 1981. After long silence as singer, David Pomeranz signed with Universal Music, Philippine and restarted to release his beautiful music since 1999."On This Day" is his third album for the label. David Pomeranz is accompanied by not only Philippine musicians but also by US musicians including Jim Peterik for this album. David Pomeranz's romantic and mellow, easy-on-the-ears music remains the same as before. And we can listen to his 80's masterpiece song "The Truth of Us" self-remake version here.

Björn Skifs is a Swedish veteran pop singer who might be known among Westcoast music lovers by his 1982 performance on Norwegian TV series called "Songwriters for the stars" with David Foster, which became available on vinyl and cassette and later in 1994 on CD by DFF Records, i.e. David Foster Friends. At that time, Björn sung Boz Scaggs' "Simone" and "If It's Not What You're Looking For" originally performed by Kenny Loggins. However, Björn is also known for his 1974 US #1 hit "Hooke On A Feeling" originally recorded by B.J. Thomas with the band "Blue Swede", a partial video clip was featured on the popular US television program "Ally McBeal" late in 90's. You should also note that Björn started his solo career in Sweden before Blue Swede years with several hits including very beautiful ballads "Blä, Blä Vindar" released in 1972. After Blue Swede success over the world, Björn restarted his solo activity with the album "Shiffs" (1975) and since then he released several albums including "Spilt Vision" (1979) featuring 7 English vocal tunes and supported by top L.A. session musicians; Dean Parks, Ed Greene, Scott Edwards and others. In 1980, Björn formed the band called "Zkiffs" and released an album including a beautiful song "Stjärnor". Björn's music style seems to be very versatile but usually maintains high qualities. For example, 1981's hit tune "Stackare, Stackare" reminds me of Stevie Wonder's "Master Blaster (Jammin')". Right after the 1984 solo album "If Then" release, Björn was again widely exposed to the world. It was the well-known musical "Chess". The concept album for this musical produced by Tim Rice with 2 ABBA members, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. The cast for the album contained both British and Swedish singers: Elaine Paige as Florence, Barbara Dickson as Svetlana (The Russian's wife), Tommy Korberg as The Russian, Murray Head as The American, and Björn Skifs as The Arbiter. Probably you recall US #9 hit tune "One Night in Bangkok"(sung by Murray Head. In 1986, the stage version of "Chess" opened in London featuring many singers from the concept album but Björn Skifs was not there.And now, he is back on track with the brand new album "Back o Track" produced and arranged by Douglas Carr known for his works with Ace of Base, Maja and The Corrs. Our Bill Champlin and his intimate fellows including Joseph Williams and Tom Saviano are deeply involved. Bill Champlin is not only singing background but also writing 2 songs; "Starlight Back To You" featuring Jessica Folker an "Like It Was Nothing At All".

Graydon's "Airplay For The Planet", the perfect AOR/Westcoast album in the decade of 1990's is now re-released with an unreleased beautiful ballad called " "I Do" featuring Bill Cantos on vocals. As far as I heard, Jay did not satisfy with the mastering of the original release (1993), specifically Japanese version which Jay was obliged to rush its mastering due to the release schedule. If you have both Japanese version and Swedish or German version of the original release, you will find that several songs on Swedish / German versions sounds better than those on Japanese version. Under the circumstance, Jay decided to remeaster this album for this re-release for the perfect completion in the true sense. Absolutely you should buy this album without hesitation. For your information, Japanese version by COOL SOUND is available with special paper sleeve package.

Cool Sound's 2002 openers are Tim Feehan's hard-to-get solo albums; "Sneak Preview" and "Carmalita". Those are exactly what I asked Toshi Nakada to reissue for a long time. Now, both albums are available on CD. The album "Carmalita" was one of the first album I managed to get right after the days I restarted to collect AOR/Westcoast albums around '95. I remember that I was totally knocked out by the killer duet ballad tune "Never Say Die" featuring Vickie Moss, and also remember that I was touched so much when I finished to listen to the last tune "Sadie J". This is one of the masterpiece AOR/Westcoast album for me at that time and now I reconfirm this is really the masterpiece one.

At last, all the Player's albums are now available on CDs! "Room With A View" is the third album of the Player originally released in 1980. As shown below, Player members in those days were Peter Beckett, Ronn Moss and John Friesen, which means that J.C. Crowley (Keyboards, Guitars, Vocals) a founder of the group and the co-writer of their debut hit "Baby Come Back" had left. We can enjoy Beckett's good ballads "It's For You" and "Givin' It All" on this album.
