NEW RELEASES
PHIL
PERRY / MY BOOK OF LOVE
|
<ACM Rating: >
|
|

|
- Phil Perry, born in St. Louis, started his
professional music career with the soul group "The
Montclairs" in 70's. Then, he teamed up with another
member of "The Montclairs" to form the duo "Perry and
Sandlin" which released 2 albums for Capitol Records.
After the duo split, Phil began writing and quickly known
as a background vocalist and session singer in Los
Angeles. Performances with Lee Ritenour and David
Garfield made him very popular among Adult Contemporary
Music lovers all over the world.
- In 1991, he started his solo singer career with his
1st solo album "Heart of the Man" released under Capitol
Records. Phil continued his session singer performances
and recording works with Dave Koz, Fourplay an d/or The
Benoit/Freeman Project, which added to Phil's burgeoning
popularity. and Phil signed with GRP in 1994 and released
his 2nd solo album "Pure Pleasure". In 1998, he released
his 3rd solo album "One Heart, One Love" under Private
Music, a unit of Windham Hill Group. And now, his 4th
solo album "My Book Of Love", about which Phil describes
as more R&B-oriented than some of my other records. I
would admit this album would be one of the finest Adult
Contemporary collection of truly great songs.

KEVYN
LETTAU / WALKING IN YOUR FOOTSTEPS -
SONGS OF
THE POLICE -
|
<ACM Rating: >
|
|

|
- Kevyn Lettau became well-known among L.A. music
scenes when she participated in Sergio Mendes group in
mid 80's. Kevyn did many session vocal works on
Contemporary Jazz / Brazillian-Jazz albums such as Lee
Ritenour's "Portrait" (1987) and Dori Caymmi's "Brazilian
Serenata" (1988), which brought her a chance to make her
own albums. Kevyn released her 1st solo album "Kevyn
Lettau" in 1991 for Nova, followed by "Braziljazz" with
the guitarist Peter Sprague and percussionist Michael
Shapiro in the same year. Kevyn succeeded to establish
her popularity as a charming female NAC (New Adult
Contemporary) vocalist by those albums. Kevyn's 3rd album
"Simple Life" was released under JVC Music, USA in 1992,
followed by "Another Season" (1994).
- Her 5th solo album "Universal Language" (1995) was a
little different from her previous albums, on which Kevyn
seemed to seek for possibility as an more pop-oriented
female singer. The following 1998 album "Language Of
Flowers" reveals new Kevyn Lettau as an more pop-oriented
Adult Contemporary female singer. On this brand new
album, Kevyn covers songs of the Police with her own
interpretation, which reveals her excellent musical
talent.

- Michael McDonald's long-delayed brand new solo album
"Blue Obsession" is now available! It is well-known among

matter of fact, Warner Bros pressed a few hundred advance
promo CDs in October 1997 with different track order.
Michael started his own label "Ramp Records" and

story regarding Chicago's unreleased masterpiece "Stone
Of Sisyphus". For your information, 3 tunes "Give It Up",
"Tell It Like It Is" and "Take It From The Top" appeared
on the before-mentioned advance promo Warner CD are
replaced by "Where Would I Be Now", "Build Upon It" and

PACIFIC
COAST HIGHWAY / PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY
|
<ACM Rating: >
DTS DECODER
REQUIRED !
|
|

|
- "Pacific Coast Highway" (formerly "Spaghetti
Western"), a hot new country/rock band from Los Angeles
released their debut album on a 5.1-channel compact disc
encoded exclusively in DTS Digital Surround, which is the
first 5.1 Digital Surround new artist release under DTS
Entertainment. You may wonder why I pick up this title.
The answer is that I found the name "Michael Carey
Schneider" well-known for his excellent band activity
with "Sneaker"! The music style of "Pacific Coast
Highway" is a little bit similar to those of The Eagles,
Pure Prairie League and etc. It's really just west coast
rock with a little country flavor thrown in. For Adult
Contemporary Music /Westcoast Fans, some tunes on this
album may be too country, but most of them are very good
westcoast tunes with good harmony vocals.
- Please note that DTS CDs will play on a CD player if
it has optical or coax digital outputs and require the
use of a DTS Digital Surround decoder. Other decoders may
create excessive noise and blow out your speakers!

reissued on CD very soon . Actually this album was
originally released only on Vinyl in 1982 and CD (Canyon

1840...)", and the other is "Then I Heard the Sound of
Rain". Just for your information, Bob Stone remastered
this reissued version, thus you can expect much more

ADRIAN GURVITZ /
CLASSIC
|
<ACM Rating: >
|
|

|
- Adrian Gurvitz's brightest music career was started
when he joined the hard rock band "The Gun" and released
the album "Gun" in 1968. Once Adrian Gurvitz had
disbanded from the trio Gun, he and his brother Paul with
former Spooky Tooth drummer Mike Kellie started a new
heavy rock project "Three Man Army" and released their
debut album "Third Of Life Time" in 1971. "Threee Man
Army", "Mahesha" and "Three Man Army II" were followed.
Adrian then embarked on another venture - "Baker Gurvitz
Army", featuring legendary Cream drummer Ginger Baker.
The band recorded 3 albums, "Baker Gurvitz Army" (1974),
"Elysian Encounter" (1975) and "Hearts Of Fire" (1976).
In 1979, Adrian started his solo career with the album for Jet
Records, "Sweet Vendetta", followed by "Il Assassino" in 1980. These
albums featured Adrian's softer side, with the slickly produced
mellow soul sounds by getting full support of L.A. top studio session
musicians such as David Paich and Jeff Porcaro. And in 1982 Adrian
released this album "Classic".

deal and released 2 solo albums in 1976 and 1977 which
did not sell well. Lenny started LeBlanc-Carr Band with
Pete Carr and released their successful album "Midnight
Light" under the name of "LeBlanc & Carr" in
1977. "Something About You" ranked # 48 and "Falling"
ranked # 13 on the US single chart in 1978. In spite of
the success, Lenny stopped this duo project in 1978. 2

"Breakthrough" including the hit tune "Somebody Send My
Baby Home" ranked # 55 under Capitol Records. This album
