LIONEL'S
DAD / IN A DREAM
>
![]()
Lionel's Dad = Mark T. Williams released his 3rd
solo project album "In A Dream". Comparing with his 1st
and 2nd album, this is a little hard-edge one. Without
Joseph Williams' featuring
vocals, the opening track "Scream" is the average-level
heavy blues rock tune I think that 3rd track "Rhythm Of
Love" has too heavy melody for Mark T.'s soft voice. 4th
track "Take Your Time" is very comfortable tune and this
is what I expected for Mark T. Williams. 6th track "I
Don't Want To Say Goodbye" and 7th track "All That Heart"
are very good. I do not like 8th one "I Desire You"
because this is not melodic, like punk-rock. After boring
track, the killer track "Don't Ask Me" would follow. 10th
track "Forver" is typical Mark T's tune. 11th and 12th
track is not my taste. The last track "The Children Are
Singing" is very good. After all, how should I grade this
album? From the viewpoint of unity as an album, I could
not give this album the average rating because I know
Mark T. could make better album like his 1st and 2nd solo
album.
<ACM Rating: The last 2 tracks "One Love To Give" and "Livin' In
The 60's" can be recommended to A.O.R. <under Japanese
definition> / Westcoast music fans. Especially the
keyboard arrangement on "One Love To Give" is the
essential element why I can recommend. "Livin' In The
60's" is a typical mid 60's Beatles-type pop song which
you can point out which Beatles tune is used for this
song concept. International

MICHAEL
SCIUTO / EDGE
>

Michael Sciuto, the brother of Tony
Sciuto has released his own solo album "Edge", which
he started to prepare in 1989. As you may know, Sciuto
brothers had done a little bit too alternative / grange
taste project Banging Rush. This solo is different from
the Banging Rush album, that is to say, I should explain
to you that this is straight hard-edge melodic rock album
or mainstream melodious hard rock with pop feeling, not
Westcoast nor A.O.R. under Japanese definition, but
A.O.R. under European definition. If you like hard-edge
type of Rick Springfield, Bon Jovi's pop tune, Mr. Big's
pop tune or something like that, this album may be good
for you.

WILSON
BROS. / ANOTHER NIGHT

This Reissue CD is most wanted and long-waited
one among Japanese A.O.R. lovers for a long time. Last
year, we got Maxus reissued CD and in this year, we have
got this "Wilson Bros / Another Night" at last. This
album is said to be one of the not a many perfect A.O.R.
albums. I admit this album is the true masterpiece among
those said to be as the masterpiece album. Their melodic
tunes with harmony vocals are perfet. And Steve
Lukather's incredible melodic guitar solos give this
album vital and emotional flavors. From the 1st track
"Feeling Like We're Strangers Again" to the last track
"Like Yesterday", there is no boring tunes on this album.
This is what we call as A.O.R. here in Japan. There is no
question whether this album is masterpiece one or not.
Yes, this is the perfect masterpiece album not at all
inferior to "Airplay / Airplay" or "Maxus / Maxus".

LE
ROUX / SO FIRED UP
>

Le Roux appeared from Louisiana as the Cajun
flavored pop-rock group in late 70's. After releasing two
albums under Capital Records, they changed their music
style on their third album "Up" more Journey-esque,
mainstream production. In 1981, Le Roux moved to RCA and
succeeded with the top-20 hit "Nobody Said It Was Easy
(Looking For The Lights)" on their 4th album "Last Safe
Place". However, the lead singer left the group and as
the result Dennis "Fergie" Frederiksen joined for this
5th and final album "So Fired Up" released in 1983. Yes,
as you know, Dennis "Fergie" Frederiksen joined TOTO as
the lead singer replacing Bobby
Kimball. On this "So Fired Up" album, Fergie reveals
his genious talent as a vocalist with excellent high-tone
voice. You may be aware that the reissued CD jacket is
the different from the original LP's. Furthermore, you
may be aware that the order of the tracks are also
different from the original order. And one bonus track
"Back In America" (lead vocal by Terry Brock, not
Fergie!) is added. You can reconfirm the young powerful
Fergie's vocal talent with energy when you listen to this
reissued CD.

ANDREW

ANDREW
GOLD / WHIRLWIND

You may feel the mid-60's Beatles, especially
the influence from Paul McCartney when you listen to
Andrew Gold's 3rd album "All This Heaven Too". And when
you listen to the song "Oh Urania (Take Me Away)", you
would understand the music background why Andrew Gold did
"Wax" project with Graham Goldman in mid 80's. Moreover,
when you listen to his 4th album "Whirlwind", you would
be sure that Andrew really would like to do "Wax" project
at that time. As regards "All This Heaven Too", you can
enjoy very good Westcoast Pop heavily influenced by
Beatles. And you would be surprised to find out the big
change of Andrew's sound style when you listen to
"Whirlwind" at the same time.

DAN
SEALS / HARBINGER

England Dan Seals started his solo artist works
in 1980 after his success as the duo unit with John Ford
Coley in late 70's. (Most popular hit tune by England Dan
Seals and John Ford Coley is "I'd Really Love To See You"
ranked #2 on US Chart in 1976. Or, you may know the tunes
like "We'll Never Have To Say Goodbye Again" and/or "Love
Is The Answer".) "Stones" is his first solo album
produced by Kyle Lehning, the producer for England Dan
Seals and John Ford Coley. In 1982, Dan Seals released
his 2nd solo album "Harbinger" which includes "Can't Get
You Out Of My Mind" written by Steve Wilson and Kelly
Wilson known as Wilson
Bros. The other remarkable songwriting credit is Rick
Bowles for "In My Heart". And on this 2nd solo album
"Harbinger", Dan Seals covered an Airplay's
tune "It Will Be Alright". Those 2 albums are very good
Westcoast album with a little country music taste, but
commercially it was difficult to say those were
successful. As the result, his 3rd solo album "Rebel
Heart" (1983) could not be recognized as West Coast Pop
album anymore, that was the good Pop Country Music. He is
still contnuing to release country music albums......
