DISCS OF JANUARY 2000
NEW RELEASES
AL
JARREAU / TOMORROW TODAY
<ACM Rating: >
We had to wait for this Al Jarreau's brand-new album
"Tomorrow Today", the first release under Verve-GRP
Records for more than 5 years! The last Jarreau album was
"Tenderness"(1994) produced by Marcus Miller under Warner
Bros, which was the recording of classic songs from
various music genres. After releasing the best album
"Best Of Al Jarreau" in 1996, he left Warner Bros. And
now, Al Jarreau has returned with a little Westcoast/AOR
atmosphere. "Tomorrow Today" is opened by "Just To Be
Loved", our Bill Champlin's
tune already familiar among us by Bill's own solo
version. Bill is taking part in this album as the
background vocalist for the opening track. Al Jarreau
would give us the good ballads "God's Gift To The World",
duet with Vanessa Williams. This album is said to be the
restart of our Al Jarreau for this new millennium. For
the sake of good order, track 3 "Through It All" is the
different song with the same title as Bill
Champlin's.

BRETT
WALKER / LIFT OFF
<ACM Rating: >
Brett Walker coming from Oklahoma, started his music
career in L.A as a songwriter. His first success was the
Billboard top-10 hit song "Waiting For Love" performed by
the L.A. hard rock band ALIAS in 1991. Then, Brett
started to make his own album in New York and the
recording materials were released in Europe and Asia in
1994. He established his popularity especially in
Scandinavia, while having a hit song entitled "Lecia". In
1996, Brett released the his band album "Brett Walker And
The Railbirds" with Tommy "Mugs" Cain (ds), Brian Jones
(b) and Brad Zapper (g) (Key) under Westcoast Records,
Sweden. "It's A Good Thing", the first single from this
album reached the radio charts in Denmark as well as
Sweden. Brett has just released his new solo album "Lift
Off" with co-writers including Jeff Paris and Timothy
Drury. Some cuts from this album are being used on the
television shows such as "Touched By An Angel" and "Bay
Watch".
As written in the inner sleeves of this CD, this
album is the collection of songs Larry John McNally
archived his musical history -work tapes of songs in
progress, live shows, demos, out-takes etc. Therefore,
the sound of the materials are actually raw demos.
However, as Larry explains, it is very fun to listen
those materials full of the freedom and his musical
origin.

REISSUES
AMBROSIA
/ SOMEWHERE I'VE NEVER TRAVELED
<ACM Rating: >
As the result "Road Island", the 5 th Ambrosia album
was reissued on CD in Japan in 1999, "Somewhere I've
Never Traveled", the 2nd Ambrosia album has been left as
the last one album which we wish is to be reissued on CD.
And now, Warner Bros, USA has reissued this album with
other Ambrosia albums, i.e. "Ambrosia"(1975), "Life
Beyond L.A."(1978) and "One Eighty"(1980). Moreover, all
those albums are digitally remastered for
the reissue of this time. As you may know, Alan Parsons
was the engineer of their 1st album "Ambrosia" and he
produced this 2nd album "Somewhere I've Never
Traveled".
Label: Warner Bros, USA (9-47566-2) (Original
Label: 20th Century Fox Records)
Release Date: February 1, 2000 <Original
Release Year:1976>
Producer: Alan Parsons
Ambrosia is:
Joe Puerta: Bass, Moog Pedals, Guitar on
"Harvey", Vocals
David Pack: Guitars, String Ensemble, Rhodes on
"George", Vocals
Christopher North: Acoustic and Electric
Keyboards, Vocal
As I explained on the above, following albums are
also reissued. as the result of degitally Remastering,
the US Versions have much better sound qualities
comparing with the Japanese version! Moreover, the price
is also much lower than Japanese version. So. I recommend
to buy US Version if you should not have those albums in
your collection. Especially "One
Eighty" must absolu be one of the Masterpieces
absolutetely.
And As you may be aware, the CD jacket of the 1st
album "Ambrosia"
is different from the Japanese reissued CD, because the
jacket of US version is the exact same one as that of the
original 20th Century Fox LP record.

RE-REISSUES
BILL
LaBOUNTY
The three never-missing albums in the AOR/Westcoast
music history are now re-reissued on CD again. These are
his 2nd - 4th solo albums released under Curb Records
between 1978-1982. Bill
LaBounty's soft and heartwarming melodies are
essential to your calm and peaceful life. You may listen
to cover versions performed by Ricky
Peterson such as "A Tear Can Tell", "Never Gonna Look
Back" and/or "Livin' It Up". Or, you may listen to
Michael Johnson's version "This Night Won't Last
Forever". You should also note that LaBounty wrote "Hot
Rod Hearts" and "Brooklyn Girls" performed by Robbie
Dupree.
You may aware that the CD jacket of his 4th album
"Bill LaBounty" is different from that of the original
release. Yes, this jacket is the one used only for
Japanese vinyl in 1982. Anyway, if you should not have
any LaBounty albums, BUY those CDs, especially his 4th
album "Bill LaBounty" is the
masterpiece of the masterpieces.
