Spotlight on PLACIDO DOMINGO
Placido Domingo has performed more than 92 roles onstage
in a career
that has spanned 48 years. In 1981 Placido's album
"Perhaps Love", named
after the John Denver song, included a
duet with John. John's album "Seasons
of the Heart" included
his own version of the song and the duet was included
on
John's "Greatest Hits #3" album which was released in 1984.
Placido was born in Madrid, Spain on January 21, 1941. His
parents
were Zarzuela performers. They moved to Mexico when
Placido was 8 years old
where he studied at Mexico City's
Conservatory of Music. In 1959, he
auditioned for the Mexican
National Opera. He made his American operatic
debut in 1961
when he appeared with the Dallas Civic Orchestra. In 1966
he
appeared at the Lincoln Center. His debut at the Metropolitan
Opera in
New York came in 1968. He subsequently appeared in
more than 300 performances
of 30 different roles in 23
consecutive seasons.
On September 19, 1985 an earthquake killed Domingo's aunt,
uncle,
his nephew and his nephew's young son in the collapse
of the Nuevo Leon
apartment block in the Tlatelolco housing
complex. During the next year he
did benefit concerts, one of
which was released on an album.

I
just learned how to download music on my phone and when my
phone rings now,
instead of any type of ring tone, you now
hear "Country Roads" by john
Denver. I just love it. The only
problem is not listening to the whole song
and missing the
phone call entirely. It makes me so happy to hear him sing
so
many times a day.

Both of them have to do with
meetings of John with Jacques
Cousteau. The first one is from the award

Evening with John Denver." The other one is from
the
celebration of the 75th birthday of Jacques-Yves Cousteau.

On February 2,
2007 the Cincinnati Pops performed a concert
with emphasis on songs from the
sea. Eric Kunzel conducted
the concert which included sea chanteys, a sword
fight, and a
man soaring above the audience on a strap of white fabric
to
"Out to Sea" from Elmer Bernstein's "The Buccaneers."
The show closed
with John Denver's Calypso - "a rollicking
tribute to maritime explorer
Jacques Cousteau."

Valentines In The Snow
by Emily M. Parris
If the February snow should come
To blanket our town in white
It will
be perfect with Valentine's Day
For the snow is a beautiful sight
When it covers each hill and valley
We can walk and enjoy the
view
I'll be happy there in the snow
When I'm walking along with you
We'll draw hearts in the fallen snow
Saying: "Darling, will you be
mine?"
A heart drawn there in the virgin snow
Makes a wonderful
Valentine

Love Is Like A Rose
by Emily M. Parris
Love is like a rose
When the feelings flow
And a wondrous joy
Is
what you know
All the feelings flow
From heart to heart
Growing like a rose
From
a single start
Each day brings blooms
Of a different hue
As you share a love
And
the joys renew
It's a growing thing
An every changing flower
That brings with each
day
An ever great power

Love Is
by Cynthia Helen Gullage
Love is like a river, flowing
Ever onward to the sea.
Love is music
for the senses,
Notes in perfect harmony.
Love can bridge the greatest distance.
Cause two hearts to beat as
one.
Love is silvered beams of moon light,
And the healing balm of
sun.
Love can be a breath of Springtime,
On a cold and snowy day.
It's the
perfume of a wild rose,
Children happily at play.
Love is like a precious jewel,
Multifaceted and rare.
Love can form a
lasting circle.
Love is peace, we all can share.
Love is an uplifting promise,
Guiding you to higher spheres.
Open
wide your eyes to wonder,
See that "Love Is Everywhere".

WANTED - "Take
Me Home" - John Denver Autobiography. Does
anyone have a copy they could
sell?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I have a
DVD that I would love for all friends of JD to have
for their collection.
It's an interview done from John's home
in Aspen by Ray Martin. It also
contains other interviews and
clips from over the years. The DVD is over an
hour long. Email
me for details. Johndenver_items@yahoo.com

Jean Kendle < jbk944@yahoo.com >
In the "Yestervideo"
Catalog they list a DVD: "George Burns:
The TV Specials". Among the shows
are: James Stewart, John
Carson, Bob Hope, Loretta Lynn, John Denver and Ann
Margaret.
B&W/Color approx. 7 hrs 30 min on 4 DVD's #P72277
$39.98
Yestervideo / PO Box 638 / Holmes, PA 19043
Note: I was
disappointed in the George Burns DVD's because
there were just "minutes of
John" in them. One show was a
"One Man Show" Special where JD walks out on
the stage and
George asks him to sing, but he won't because he says "Then
it
wouldn't be a One Man Show". The other is GB 90th Birthday
Show, and
John does sing "Perhaps Love" but that's all.
