"Essential Files" for Nisus Writer Express

Classic Nisus Writer has two very useful menu items named "File > File Access > Open Selection" and "File > File Access > Essential Files". This set of AppleScript macros for Nisus Writer Express v. 2.7 and later try to simulate the functionalities of these menu items.

You will find in the package a folder named:
Essential_files
Inside this folder, you will find four AppleScript scripts:

Please put this folder in your /Users/[your_account]/Library/Application Support/Nisus Writer/Macros/ folder.

Open a file in Nisus Writer Express that you want to put in the "Essential Files" list, and run "Macros > Essential_Files > Register_FrontFile". A file named "essential_files.txt" will be created in a folder named "macro_helper" in your /Users/[your_account]/Library/Application Support/Nisus Writer/Macros/ folder (if "macro_helper" folder does not exist, it will be created), and in that folder, the file path, followed by a tab character, and the file name, will be written.

You can repeat this process any times you want. If you register a file which has been already registered, a warning will let you know that.

Now, when you have registered your "Essential Files", when you want to open one of them, you will run the macro named Open_Essential_file: choose "Macros > Essential_Files > Open_Essential_file": a list of the file names will appear; please choose the file you want to open, and press "OK" (or hit the Return key). That file will be opened in Nisus Writer Express (if it is not moved or deleted...).

To edit the "essential_files.txt", please run the macro "Open_essential_files_list": "Macros > Essential_Files > Open_essential_files_list" -- in fact, you would need to run this macro mainly to delete files from your file list.

If you want to open a file for which you know the path (Classic Mac OS path, or Unix style path), yo can write that path in a Nisus Writer Express document (it must be an absolute path); select it and run the macro "Open_selection": "Macros > Essential_Files > Open_selection". If it is a valid file path, the file will be opened.

You will find in the package a ReadMe file, which is the same as this web page.
