CATEGORY AND SCHEDULE FOR THE WORLD HARMONICA CHAMPIONSHIPS

@@@ CHROMATIC SOLO [Category 1a-2b] @@@

CLASSIC Junior [Category 1a]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 8 minutes)
    Description:
       Non-accompaniment is acceptable.  Accompaniment for the own choice 
       piece should be piano in principle.  A pianist for the accompaniment 
       will be provided by the sponsor, but your own accompanist may also 
       join.  If a pianist provided by the sponsor is used, music for the 
       own choice piece (including that for the piano accompaniment) should
       be submitted by 10th September, 1995. The PA cannot be used.  

CLASSIC Senior [Category 1b]
    Requirements:TEST PIECE
                 OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 8 minutes)
    Description: same as one of category 1a.

JAZZ POPULAR Junior [Category 2a]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 6 minutes)
    Description:
       Non-accompaniment is acceptable.  CD, 6mm casette tape and DAT for 
       accompaniment may be used.  PA may be used. (Hand microphone or 
       stand microphone may also be used.)  The only music instrument 
       which will be provided by the sponsor is piano.  

JAZZ POPULAR Senior [Category 2b]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 6 minutes)
    Description: same as one of category 2a

@@@ DIATONIC SOLO (10-hole single reed) [Category 3-5] @@@

BLUES/ROCK [Category 3]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 6 minutes)
    Description:
       Non-accompaniment is acceptable.  Accompaniment is limited to one 
       person for guitar or piano (keyboard).  The sponsor will provide a
       piano (keyboard) or guitar anplifier, pianist or guitarist, but 
       your own accompanist may also join.  CD, casette tape, etc. for 
       accompaniment cannot be used.  
       PA and amplifier may be used. However, including its setting, 
       the PA will be limited to that provided by the sponsor.  

FOLK/COUNTRY [Category 4]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 6 minutes)
    Description: same as one of Category 3.

FREE [Category 5]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 6 minutes)
    Description: same as one of Category 3.

@@@ DIATONIC TREMOLO/OCTAVE SOLO [Category 6a-6b] @@@

Junior [Category 6a]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 6 minutes)
    Description:
       Free accompaniment.  However, accompanists in this instance are 
       prerequisite.  CD, 6mm casette tape or DAT for accompaniment and
       PA may be used.  The only musical instrument which will be 
       provided by the sponsor is piano.  

Senior [Category 6b]
    Requirements:TEST PIECE
                 OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 6 minutes)
    Description: same as one of category 6a.

@@@ DUO, TRIO AND GROUP [Category 7-10] @@@

DUO [Category 7]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 6 minutes)
    Description:
       Any line-up.  However, only harmonicas can be used. (Any type of 
       harmonica excluding a keyed type may be used.)  PA may be used.

TRIO Junior [Category 8a]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 6 minutes)
    Description: same as one of Category 7.

TRIO Senior [Category 8b]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 6 minutes)
    Description: same as one of Category 7.

GROUP [4 PERSONS OR OVER TO 6 PERSONS] Junior [Category 9a]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 6 minutes)
    Description: same as one of Category 7.

GROUP [4 PERSONS OR OVER TO 6 PERSONS] Senior [Category 9b]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 6 minutes)
    Description: same as one of Category 7.

GROUP [7 PERSONS OR OVER] [Category 10]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 8 minutes)
    Description:Different musical instruments may be added as long as the
                number of harmonica players is seven or over, and two 
                thirds or over of the composed members are harmonica 
                players. (Any type of harmonica excluding a keyed type may
                be used.)  The equipment and musical instrument which will
                be provided by the sponsor will be limited to PA (maximum 
                of 10 microphones) and piano.  

@@@ CATEGORY FOR THE FUTURE [Category X] @@@

CATEGORY FOR THE FUTURE [Category X]
    Requirements:OWN CHOICE PIECE (within 10 minutes)
    Description:The line-up or form will not be questioned if it is a 
                fresh performance contributing to widening the use of a 
                harmonica and enhancing the performing technique, method, 
                etc. of the harmonica in the future.  Any type of 
                harmonica can be used in this instance.

*Junior means those who are below the age of 16 as of 10th October, 1995.
*Senior means those who are 16 or over as of 10th October, 1995.
*For category 8 and 9, entry should be made by the Senior if there is any
 person qualified as Senior among the group members.  
*Entry to multiple categories is acceptable.  
*Own choice piece is to be limited to one.  Suite, variation, medley, etc.
 will be considered as one piece of music as long as the performance is
 within the limited time.  
*Performance order, time, etc. will be determined separately after the 
 entry deadline.

=QUALIFICATION=

Qualification is unnecessary.  
Anybody may enter in the World Harmonica Championships 1995.
  

=ENTRY METHOD=

*Entry Form

Please fill out the required items in the Entry Form contained within this 
leaflet and mail it to the address below.  
Those who are making multiple entries should fill out this form for each 
category.  

If an entry is made for an ensemble, all members should fill out this Form 
respectively and the leader should collect them and mail them together.  

Those who are making entries for Category 1a or 1b, and are requesting the 
sponsor to provide a pianist for accompaniment, please send the music of 
the Own choice piece (including that of the accompaniment) by 10th 
September, 1995.  

*Entry Fee
20,000 Yen per person regardless of the number of categories entered.  
Those who have paid 20,000 Yen may freely participate in or enter all 
the events of the World Harmonica Festival '95 Japan.  

When you arrive at PACIFICO, the site of WHF'95, please come to the 
Registration Desk at the Entrance Hall on the ground floor to pick up 
your ID card, souvenir brochure, etc.  


=ENTRY DEADLINE=

Entry Forms must arrive at the WHF'95 Executive Committee by 31st August,
1995.  The music of the test piece will be sent upon receiving your Entry
Form.

HOW TO REMIT the Entry Fee:
     Prease remit the Entry Fee to the following bank account
     by 31st August, 1995.

Note:1) Personal checks are not accepted.
     2) All payments must be made in Japanese currency (Yen).  
        We would appreciate your sending a copy of the bank's receipt for
        remittance to avoid any possible difficulties.
