Sacred lions had been familiar to Chinese since a long time ago. But today, some scholars says that this motif might have come from the Mesopotamian Sphinxes. On the other hand, vine arabesque pattern has its origin surely in Greek and Roman culture. This pattern came to China by way of Silk Road, especially with refugees owing to the fall of Sassanian Persia (AD 651). Sacred lions pattern and vine arabesque pattern were united in China in Tang Dynasty. Therefore this type of mirror has Greek, Roman, Persian and Chinese atmosphere.
